In 1980, due to the decrease in cotton areas and the
increase in corn areas in Cukurova region, the demand
for plant which woud processes corn increased rapidly.
In that time, Mr. Nuri Çomu, Agricultural Engineer and
businessman, interested in corn process and its
derivatives; hence he did feasibility to build a new
plant.
At that time, starch was imported from foreign
countries, it means that the demands and needs for
quality starch could not be satisfactory in Turkey.
Taking the regional requirements and feasibility into
the consideration , investment was made to produce
starch and corn syrups by Comu in 1985.
The company, named Sunar Mısır , was built in 1986 with
the corn milling capasity of 50 tons / day; glucose
production also began in the same year with starch and
dextrin production. In years, by increasing in capasity, quality and technology, Sunar Mısır continued to
stable development; in 1990, corn oil production; in
1992, modified starch (for paper and textile industry )
and finally in 2002, iso-glucose production were begun
to be an integrated plant.
Up to now, Sunar Mısır, always struggles to go further
in know-how and knowledge to produce high quality
products by regarding costumers’ demands.
